The Ballad for a Stomach of The Formigonera del PobleNew is an innovative mobile lighting piece created by artist Antoni Miralda, which was presented during the Llum BCN 2022 event in the Poblenou neighborhood of Barcelona, from February 4 to 6. This event, dedicated to the art of light, transforms the streets of Barcelona into an urban canvas, where projections and interactive installations invite spectators to reflect on the city and its surroundings.
Miralda, in collaboration with the FoodCultura Foundation, designed The Formigonera del PobleNew with the aim of provoking reflection on the transformation of the neighborhood, one of the most representative sectors of the city’s modernization. Using the iconic figure of the concrete mixer as a symbol, an element associated with the construction process and urban change, the artist raises questions about how physical structures transform not only the landscape but also the social dynamics of the place.
Ballad for a Stomach seeks to get the audience to stop and observe the transformations of their urban environment in a unique way, involving light, movement, and the symbolism of the concrete mixer as a metaphor for the constant evolution of the city. The piece is not only a reflection on Poblenou but also an invitation to think about the relationship between growing cities and the communities that inhabit them.
